Can one person really make a difference?
I think it’s fair to say that most of us at one time or another have had the thought, “What can I do to solve world peace… or end homelessness… or convince everyone to become a vegetarian?” (Okay maybe the last one is mostly me.) The point is, when we look at these very large and complex issues it can seem so overwhelming, we do nothing – feeling as though we can’t make a big enough impact to truly make a difference.
This is one of the biggest reasons I started The Game Changer Podcast. Tomorrow, I am so happy to share my conversation with Brett Earnest, who is making a difference in unique way, with an endeaver I have never heard of before. While there is something tangible being contributed, what I consider to be the real game changer is what Bicycles Against Poverty (www.bicyclesagainstpoverty.org) is doing to promote entrepreneurship, education, and building credit in order to create a financial future for villages in Uganda.
If you have ever wondered what one person can do with a complex problem that seems to have no solution, I hope you listen tomorrow. You will hear the story of two friends, who met in college and shared the same passion; making a difference. Keep in mind, Brett is the General Manager of Clark Construction in Seattle, WA who travels to Uganda on his own vacation time every year, in addition to helping to promote this organization’s efforts all year long. (The photo at the top is Brett with Ocia David who is a local community leader and Bicycle’s Against Poverty participant.)
So no matter where you are, or what job you have, after listening to this show I hope you are inspired to find a way to contribute in any way that is meaningful to you.
This is the time of year to consider the magic of possibility. You don’t need to stop global warming in order to make a difference. (Although to a polar bear, that would be appreciated.) I would love to hear from you with what you are doing and any inspiring stories you have of people who are making difference. Your story may be the one that inspires someone to follow in your footsteps!
With heartfelt gratitude,
