The price tag of blaming someone else for our misfortunes…
Now before you answer that question, understand I do not believe there are any accidents. Thus there are no misfortunes as everything happens for your benefit, even when in the moment we may not know what that is. But stick with me here as “everything happening for a reason” is not the point of this blog. This is really about blame versus responsibility. What I want to chat about is the downside of blaming someone for anything that has happened in our life.
While it certainly may seem easier in the short run to say, “I can’t believe that person did that to me.” Or, “You make me so angry!” (One of my personal favorites!) The moment we blame someone for what has happened to us or how we feel, in that same moment, we give them our power. Here’s how I mean that… what is really being said is, “I am giving you more control over my life and my emotions than what I have.” And that is a very slippery slope.
The truth is everything that happens or is said is just information: it’s what we choose to do with that information that determines our actions, and ultimately our destiny. And why would we ever put that in that hands of someone else? Further, the moment we take full responsibility and shift our perspective from everything happens TO us, to it happening FOR us, everything changes. In that moment you have the opportunity to decide what you will do about it, and how you will respond.
I hope you join me today for my conversation with Jeff Smith, fellow podcaster, as we talk about this mindset shift and how it was a complete Game Changer for him in his life. His life has definitely taken some amazing twists and turns and I think you will find this conversation an inspirational one, and one that may put you back in the driver seat of your life and helps you to shift it into high gear. You may just find it’s time to pull over, and let all those backseat drivers of your life and your emotions off at the next bus stop.
