We’ve all heard the line, “What would you do today, if you knew you couldn’t fail?” Ironically, that is the very thinking that keeps people from greatness. This need for a guarantee that we will be successful in taking that next step, is what keeps us stuck. One of the most consistent realities of successful people, is they have far more failures than what the average person can even conceive of. So could it be said that a stepping stone to greatness is failure? I believe it is. The reason for this, is failure (and more importantly greatness) require three things; the willingness to fail, the ability to take risk, and embracing the unknown.
Over a decade ago, the opening page to my website started with the words, “Change happens in an instant.” The reality is, most people don’t get to the point of doing what it takes to create significant change. The reason for this, is that one dreaded word that surmises my three reasons people don’t experience greatness; comfort.
As long as things are good enough, they will likely stay the same, as there is no incentive to change them. However when things become absolutely miserable to the point that life’s current circumstance are intolerable, we will finally do something about it. I also don’t believe that change comes from laying on a therapist’s couch for 20 years going on about how wronged you were in your childhood. Rather than hearing yourself blame everything and everyone else for 20 years, stop and say, “That’s it, I’m done with the story, the excuses, and the blame. It’s time for me take responsibility and live the rest of my life differently.”
That’s what happened with today’s guest Stacy Cross, on The Game Changer Podcast. She is the founder of Comfort Killers. It is her mission in life to push people out of their comfort zone, take a chance, and really start living. I loved this conversation immensely as it crosses the three topics I mentioned above, which are crucial to greatness.
