HeartMath

Since 1991, the HeartMath Institute has researched and developed reliable, scientifically based tools to help people bridge the connection between their hearts and minds and deepen their connection with the hearts of others.

HeartMath Institute’s long years of scientific research and clinical trials have helped improve thousands of people’s lives worldwide. Whether you are seeking help for job stress, anxiety, fatigue, sleeplessness or another stressful condition, you will find proven, easy-to-use solutions during this retreat.

One of the most important core principles you will gain is in the understanding that heart intelligence is the flow of intuitive awareness, understanding, and inner guidance we experience when the mind and emotions are brought into coherent alignment with the heart. It can be activated through self-initiated practice. The more coherent we are and the more we pay attention to this deeper intuitive inner guidance, the greater our ability to access this intelligence more frequently. Heart intelligence underlies cellular organization, and guides and evolves organisms toward increased order, awareness, and coherence of their bodies’ systems.

From a physics perspective, when we are in a coherent state, virtually no energy is wasted because our systems are performing optimally and there is synchronization between heart rhythms, the respiratory system, blood-pressure rhythms, etc. Among the many benefits of personal coherence are increased composure, more energy, clear thinking, enhanced immune system function, and hormonal balance.

Thoughts and emotions can change heart-rhythm patterns, and these changing heart rhythms can affect other bodily systems as well, including the brain and its ability to process information, decision-making, problem-solving and creativity. Heart rhythms also can directly affect how we feel, and how we feel can affect our heart rhythms. A significant finding in this area of research is that we can intentionally experience positive feelings such as care, compassion, courage, and love, to advantageously affect our heart rhythms and overall well-being.

Life Coaching

Every successful person has a coach of some kind. World-class athletes all have personal trainers. The best singers all have voice coaches. The best investors have financial advisors. But why would someone work with a life coach? There are three significant reasons. One is having someone who has the capacity to take in the whole of your life with consideration of decision making, rather than just one facet of your life. The other is that you have someone who is looking out for your best interest without an agenda. Typically our friends, relatives, and co-workers all have a personal gain from the advice they give… even when they don’t realize it. Examples of this are: They don’t want you to leave, they don’t want you to get ahead thus making them feel insignificant, or they don’t want you to take a risk- because they wouldn’t. Finally, you need someone in your life who is asking you questions different from the questions you are asking yourself.

&nbsp

Albert Einstein is credited with saying, “The mind that created the problem, cannot be the same mind to solve it.” Even if you don’t have a “problem,” a life coach is an invaluable asset to get where you want to go, in the shortest amount of time… with the least amount of compromise to your integrity or soul.

Yoga

Most of us are accustomed to looking outside of ourselves for happiness, a sense of accomplishment, or fulfillment. We are living in a world that conditions us to believe that outer attainments can give us what we want. Yet before long, we realize that nothing external can completely fulfill the deep longing within for “something more”. “Most of the time, however, we find ourselves striving toward that which always seems to lie just beyond our reach. We are caught up in doing rather than being, in action rather than awareness.

Yoga is a simple process of reversing the ordinary outward flow of energy and consciousness so that the mind has the time and space to realize our truth lies within, not from any external input. By connecting the breath with the movement of the body, we allow synchronicity to occur. With practice, we come to treat ourselves in a more peaceful, understanding, and respectful way. Coming from this place, over time we find ourselves responding to situations from a sense of patient mindfulness as we return to our breath in the midst of challenging situations, rather than reacting from a place of scattered, chaotic thoughts.

Meditation

There are many things in life that are beyond our control. However, it is possible to take responsibility for our own states of mind—and to change them for the better.

Meditation is a means of transforming the mind. Meditation is a practice that encourages and develops concentration, clarity, emotional positivity and a calm seeing of the true nature of things. By engaging with a particular meditation practice, you learn the patterns and habits of your mind, and the practice offers a means to cultivate new, more positive ways of being. With regular work and patience, these nourishing, focused states of mind can deepen into profoundly peaceful and energized states of mind. Such experiences can have a transformative effect and can lead to a new understanding of life.

From the outside, one may consider meditation as a form of prayer. But it isn’t. Meditation simply means awareness of the present moment. Whatever you do with awareness is meditation. Watching your breath is meditation; listening to the birds is meditation. As long as these activities are free from any other distraction to the mind, it is effective meditation.

Ultimately, meditation is not a technique but a way of life. Meditation means “a cessation of the thought process”. It describes a state of consciousness when the mind is free of scattered thoughts.

The word meditation is derived from two Latin words : meditari (to think, to dwell upon, to exercise the mind) and mederi (to heal). Its Sanskrit derivation “medha” means wisdom.

With regular practice of a balanced series of techniques, the energy of the body and mind can be liberated and the quality of consciousness can be expanded. This is not a subjective claim. It is a reality now being investigated by scientists and established by empirical evidence.

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra or iRest is integrative, in that it heals the various unresolved issues, traumas, and wounds that are present in the body and mind. It is restorative in that it aids its practitioners in recognizing their underlying peace of mind that is always present regardless of the circumstances of life that are presented.

Yoga Nidra or yogic sleep is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping, like the “going-to-sleep” stage. It is a state in which the body is completely relaxed, and the practitioner becomes systematically and increasingly aware of the inner world by following a set of verbal instructions. This state of consciousness (Yoga Nidra) is different from meditation in which concentration on a single focus is required. In Yoga Nidra the practitioner remains in a state where only the hearing still connects to the instructions and all other senses fall away. Yoga Nidra is among the deepest possible states of relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness.

The practice of Yoga Nidra has been found to reduce tension and anxiety. The autonomic symptoms of high anxiety such as headache, chest pain, palpitations, sweating, and abdominal pain respond well. It has been used with great success to help veterans from war cope with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as well as others diagnosed with the same condition, regardless of origin.

Tapping (EFT)

EFT -Tapping, otherwise known as EFT or Emotional Freedom Techniques, is a combination of Ancient Chinese Acupressure and Modern Psychology. Stress, by definition, is when our nervous system has become overly sensitized because of past events and emotions.

Tapping sends a calming signal to the amygdala of the brain, allowing the brain and body to feel safe, and thus the anxiety to dissipate. Through Tapping we’re actually able to reprogram the brain to no longer be overly sensitized, allowing us to come back to a more natural, balanced state where we can better differentiate between real threats of danger and everyday events.

http://www.visitjulian.com https://www.sandiego.org http://www.visitcalifornia.com

Julian is a premier mountain getaway, just an hour east of San Diego in the beautiful Cuyamaca Mountains. The town is a throwback to a time when life was a bit simpler, a lot less hectic, and where no one is in a hurry…unless they start to run out of apple pie! Rooted in the 1870’s gold rush, this old mining town is now famous for apple-everything, and the quiet charm of this picturesque town will leave you with a renewed sense of peace and tranquility.

Just an hour drive from the San Diego Airport (SAN), and roughly two hours from both the Orange Country (SNA) and Los Angles (LAX) Airports, Julian makes you feel as though you are worlds away from the city while remaining right in your Southern California back yard. Because of its unique location, Julian is one of the few places in California with four distinct seasons: White Winters, vibrant Springs where daffodils and lilacs line the streets and grow wild on the hillside, warm California Summers, and the famous Julian Falls that paint the town in every shade of red, yellow, orange, and purple imaginable.

Julian is a small destination town with options for everyone. Hiking and biking are popular here, as the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) nearby town, or you can cool off in a canoe at Lake Cuyamaca just minutes away. If the outdoors isn’t your thing you can enjoy shopping, a gold mine tour or go wine tasting at one (or all) of the many award-winning wineries in the area.

The Inner North Star Retreat Center sits atop one of the highest peaks in Julian, with 20-acres of true privacy. With Granite Mountain as the backdrop to the meditation and yoga meadow, and the Salton Sea shimmering in the distance, this serene mountain setting with spectacular 360-degree views will take your breath away. In the airy courtyard, guests can enjoy the cool mountain breeze while sitting at the cozy fire table. Across the deep valleys you will see acres of manicured grape vines, and as the sun paints majestic Volcan Mountain different colors throughout the day, you will witness one of Mother Nature’s greatest works of art.

Julian is also one of the most impressive star-gazing sites on the west coast. Atop this mountain, uninterrupted by light or noise, you will experience the heavens at night as you’ve never seen before. For more information on this amazing little town, check out www.visitjulian.com.
